Weekly Weigh-in: Week One

Welcome to Weigh In Monday Tuesday!

"Hi, love of my life.  How are you on this lovely Tuesday?"
"Lovely wife thanks for calling me.  I love you."
"Why I love you too dear.  Guess what?  I lost weight!"
"Fantabulous!"
"Guess how much I lost?"
"10 pounds"
"WTF JAMES! How can you say *#&$(*% 10 pounds?  The average weight loss is 1-2 pounds!! Now my loss sounds measly next to 10 freaking pounds!!!"
"I just woke up."
"Whatever"

Ok, so only half this conversation is true and perhaps not quite so much profanity.

Balloon. Deflated.

Luckily I quickly rebounded and can say that I am still quite happy with a 5.4 pound loss in 8 days!  Hooray, hooray!  My sagging self esteem (along with other saggy parts) got a great little boost.  Now, I understand that I will not be losing this much week every week but it was a great way to get things rolling for me.

I am a happy camper knowing that I didn't feel too damn deprived.  I had a tall mocha frappacino yesterday.  2 small chocolate chip cookies another day!  I survived a BBQ and a birthday celebration. I up'd my intake on veggies, fruits, whole grains, and water.  This whole balanced lifestyle thing may be doable afterall!!

Losing It

Well, at least that is the goal.

I have been waiting to update the blog until I got some pictures loaded into my computer.  But it just hasn't been happening so you'll have to deal without seeing the "before" picture I took.

I am on the weight loss train.  Chooo Choo!  I'm speeding right along - no stops in sight.  Of course, I'm only on Day 3 so a derailment is quite possible by say, Friday.

Day 1 was Monday where I weighed in at work for Weight Watchers.  I was introduced to the new Points Plus system and was motivated from the get go.  Motivated by how horrible my weight has crept up and motivated by the new way of thinking.  I needed motivation, I needed a good ol boost of "I think I can. I think I can"  to turn into "I know I can. I know I can".

Like I mentioned, I took a before picture which I am not pleased about but I guess that's the point of a "before" picture.  I have read other weight loss blogs and many people post the forbidden number but right now, I just don't want it out there.  Maybe one day when I've put some poundage to the side, I will announce just where I started from.  Plus, you can draw your own conclusions once I post my picture.

Besides staying in my Points for the past couple of days, I also started at the gym today.  Hooray for getting out of bed early!  I simply walked the treadmill for 30 min.  Would have gone more but I got there a bit late and needed to get to work.  I also signed up for a cardio class on Mon, Wed, Fri from 7-7:45am.  See I'm going all out!

I've started off strong before and just eventually simmered down so I need to figure out what is going to keep me motivated.  This isn't a diet - this truly is a life change for me.  I do think I can do it.  I want to do it.  I need to keep myself accountable so I am tracking my food, tracking my activity and sharing here.  I plan on having a Weigh In Monday post each week to keep myself honest.

So here I go...anyone want to join me on my little party train? All aboard!

I'm All Signed Up!

I have 4 or 5 posts in my draft area that I haven't finished yet.  At this point, I think I'll be deleting my Mother's Day post.

I did want to write a couple of updates of things that have been on the horizon.

1. I applied to and was accepted into a Master's of Health Administration program for the fall.  Today, I actually just registered for my first class - Organizational and Human Resource Management.  I will be attending a private University which happens to offer this degree entirely online.  Right now, I am pretty zen about the whole thing.  I do have moments of nervousness especially with the online portion of this story.  I started college back when email was just getting popular. Although I am technological semi savvy, the change from a traditional classroom setting is a bit daunting.

If I take one class a semester (Fall, Winter, Summer), I can finish in 3 years.  I hope to be able to do it in less time than that but I am not going to push myself.  I decided to only take one class to start off with in a traditional 14 week setting.  I can always chose to do an accelerated 8 week course in the future.

For those of you who have taken online courses, where is the cheapest place to buy books from?  I had forgotten just how expensive those pesky things are.

2.  Today, I also officially signed up for Weight Watchers! Hooray!  I have been wanting to join for quite some time but just couldn't manage the weekly cost.  Now my work is covering the majority of the cost and the money I am putting forward can be refunded if I meet certain goals!

This is coming just in time since my "big" clothes are starting to feel a bit tight.  Hopefully this will be the motivation I need.....

Plus, my supervisor gave me a free 3 month pass to a health club that she won in a raffle.  Now I REALLY have no excuse to shed some of these pounds.

Never Have I Ever

At 4 years old and at 33 years old, Lillian and I experienced a first in both of our lives.  We flew a kite.

It was cool out but plenty of wind.  The smile, laugh, and screams that filled the field were some of the best I've seen and heard.  It was a moment where I  stopped, watched her, and prayed that I would never ever forget.

Since this was my first time flying a kite (Lilly actually let me get a few seconds in) it got me thinking of the drinking game "I Never". To those who have never played, a person says something like "I have never flown a kite" and the people who have indeed flown a kite, drinks.  Granted the game usually has a bit more imaginative statements  than one about flying a kite but my parents read this blog and I just don't want to share those juicy tidbits I learned about loved ones at my bachelorette party many years ago.

Anyway, kite flying seems to be just one of those things everyone has done except me.  I've also never been to the circus or gone horse back riding. Up until childbirth, I had never been in the hospital...after that, I became a regular for awhile.  I'm certain there are more things but those are the ones the pop into mind.

So how about you? Are there any common things that you've never done?
